NO GIANT WIND TURBINES HERE!

1ST APRIL 2008...NEWS..NEWS..NEWS..NEWS 94% VOTE AGAINST E.STOKE WINDFARM

At the meeting called by East Stoke Parish Council, only 8 out of the audience of 145 voted to support the proposed 6 industrial turbines 125 metres (410 feet) all - taller than Salisbury Cathedral. The meeting was held in the D'Urberville Hall in Wool, the only one large enough to hold the sizeable number of concerned residents. Residents from Wool, Trigon and Wareham had been invited, but some came from as far as Bournemouth. The standing room only audience heard presentations from Will Bond, the landowner, and Infinergy, the Developer, on the proposed plans. Terry Stewart, Chairman of Purbeck CPRE and Geoff Edwardes, Chairman of DART (Dorset Against Rural Turbines) gave illustrated talks on the threats from the Turbines. "These huge monstrosities will dominate the Purbeck AONB and the World Heritage Coast, being visible over much of Dorset" said Terry Stewart, "they will produce birdkill, cause noise problems and devalue local houses." The meeting was chaired by Barry Quinn, West Purbeck District Councillor. "The turbines are not efficient or effective," said Geoff Edwardes, "the wind is variable and only blows for 24% of the time to generate electricity, they always have to be backed up by a fossil fuel power station if the winds drop."

We hope that having read so far that you will choose to join our cause by allowing us to put your name on our Data Base, which will form the basis of our eventual petition against any further proposals. This will also enable you to receive our latest material.

You can register your email address for the monthly (text only) email updates here:

For now both the proposals by "Your Energy Ltd." and NWP have been defeated. Our first round of fund-raising to fight these proposals, financed initial essential needs, leaflets, posters, paying for consultants and solicitors etc.

In the meantime DART remains active and vigilant.

Should you wish to make a donation -  that would be very welcome if and when another Wind Power Station proposal rears it's head.

Clearly, the more people who continue to register their dissent with these types of schemes the better, in our fight against these highly inappropriate developments of the Dorset countryside.
