Lower Winterborne Wind Power Station Development Muston Down Wind Power Station Development Cucklington Development - Visit the website of the Save the Vale Action Group (SVAG) fighting the development of wind power stations at Cucklington, South Somerset. On Tuesday 9th March 2004 the Planning Committee for Area East of South Somerset District Council met to consider the recommendation of its Planning Officer that the application by Ecotricity to build two 100m high wind turbines near the peaceful village of Cucklington in the BlackmoreVale be rejected. The Committee voted to reject the application. The Planning Officer had concluded that ‘the construction of two 100m high wind turbines in this area would bring a disproportionate and incongruous vertical element, which would intrude upon the local landscape character of the Blackmore Vale. Check the SVAG Website for the latest information. SVAG are currently concerned by a number of proposals to develop Henstridge Airfield. Because of its position, the airfield is visible over a very wide area. Yet proposals for very large industrial buildings and for 12 huge wind turbines have been submitted. Although these are currently opposed by local planning authorities, the latest Government planning advice allows such decisions to be taken by more remote bodies, such as the Government Office for the South West. It is a matter of real concern that there does not appear to be an agreed plan for this large area. SVAG will ensure that local views are fully considered, that development is of an appropriate design and scale, and takes road usage into account. |
